Crabs on Guam

20 Feb

I HATE CRABS! Crabs are people who don’t want to see other people succeed. According to Wikipedia,  crab mentality is a way of thinking best described by the phrase “If I can’t have it, neither can you.” The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs in which one tries to escape over the side, but is relentlessly pulled down by the others in the pot. This term is especially widely used among Filipinos. If you’re Filipino, you will truly know how it feels. These envious people will find fault in anything and everything so they’ll feel good about themselves. They’re everywhere- US, Europe, Asia, even here on Guam- Filipinos destroying fellow Filipinos’ reputation. This culture is slowly destroying the Filipino community.

I, myself, have not been spared by these people I call crabs . I am a performance artist striving for perfection. I give my 110% in all of my shows because I believe the audiences, especially fellow Filipinos abroad, deserve my very best.  It can get pretty exhausting because I sing, dance and host at the same time. So when the 1st set is done I go straight to the dressing room to rest and save my energy for the 2nd set of the show. During the break, I would go out and say hi to some guests because they wanted to meet me. Some guys would offer me drinks and would want me to sit down with them. I told them that I can’t sit down and I can’t stay long because I need to go back to the dressing room. There was this one Filipino guy who bought my calendar so I had to go to his table and sign it. He gave me a drink and he told to me to sit down with him. I told him I can’t. And he said, “I bought you a drink therefore you are obliged to sit down with me!”  “If that’s the case then I’ll cancel it for you”, I retorted. I hate arrogant men! Since then, people are spreading rumors about me that the reason why I don’t sit down with male guests is that I have a boyfriend or a sugar daddy. What the fuck?! But if I sit down and drink with them, I’d be tagged as a whore! This really irritates me! I can drink and sit with anyone if I wanted to. If you’re a gentleman and if you have sense of humor, then it would be difficult for me not to like you. You’re not obliged to buy me a drink. But since I’m NOT in my own country right now, I need to be careful of my actions. Sadly, Filipina entertainers are often stigmatized as prostitutes and were deported back to the Philippines. But NOT ALL FILIPINAS ARE WHORES. I HOPE our fellow Filipinos would start appreciating and supporting us rather than destroying and bringing us down. STOP crab mentality right NOW!

Never mind those dicks. You have plenty of reasons to be proud of your work. He probably only had experiences with girls that he could exploit in beer house joints and such.

If that IDIOT calls himself a filipino.,then,I will denounce my citizenship immediately.,That THING is not even a Crab.,It’s even more unthinkable to call him a Man.,not even a Living Thing.,an Abomination would still be an Understatement.,so I’ll just stick to the word THING.,That thing thinks (which I doubt if he even has a brain )that all women that sings and dances on the stage are whores.,coz he haven’t experienced Sex yet.,coz his a THING.,and Things have no feelings.,they’re just that..A Disgusting,Despicable THING.,and THINGS are usually Discarded and thrown in a Garbage Bin.,It’s a pity that we will have to deal with this Abominable THING,coz they trUly exist.,So please don’t let it bother you Mocha.,there are still a lot of us who LOVES and ADORE you.,and we are not CRABS!!.,We are Your MochaBOYS!!.,and We Miss you Terribly!!.,Come Home Iha!!..We LOVE YOU!!… (c :

Sana nga yun ang mawala… yung crab mentality. and that guy who bought u a drink and thinks utang na loob mo pa yung pagbili nya ng calendar mo and as for that drink, halos lahat ata ng performing artist ganun ang na experience. we are there to entertain but somehow we have to draw a line. there are guys naman who invite you for just a short friendly chat or business. They should understand din naman sana that you deserve respect as a professional performer. My God! Tanga ba siya? Recording Artist ka na nga,eh. Grabe pagka-arrogant nun,ha? That guy is sooooo rude.

tama ka nga, nastigmatized ang mga Pinay entertainers bcoz somehow in our history dahil sa mga nagwork sa Japan din, yung mga dohan2 and those who worked there na wala namang talent sa kanta o sayaw na nakakarating dun. kaya parang naging notion ng mga guys pag performer ka, galing ka Japan or kumanta ka sa ibang bansa,”japayuki” na itinawag sa kanila kaht wala namang bahid ng kapangitan ang term na yun. nakakainis.

Basta andito kami mga supporters nyo po. You still deserve respect for who you are. and we love you because you are a true person. More power po!

Hi mocha! I totally understand what you feel about some guys out there especially our own kind. I also believe about how some guys behave when they don’t get what they want. In the first place, you didn’t ask him to buy you a drink and if he did, so what? It’s a matter of courtesy to buy you a drink but it didn’t mean to cater his needs. I hate guys also who ask something in return and say horrible things about a girl if he dosnt satisfy his needs. Those kind of guys are not even worth of you time talking to.
I’m so sorry that you even had to experience that to a Filipino, it’s a shame, instead he should have been supportive of you coming to Guam, but then again, he’s just one of those guys who stereotype entertainers like you. Don’ t pay them any attention and just do what you have to do. You are doing great! As well as the other mocha girls. You all are making us laugh and good quality intertainment. More power to you and the mocha girls! Just remember, don’t let it affect you, he’s a crab!

    I’m a fan

Hello Mocha! Please take care yourself while you are there in Guam. Unfortunately, that small island is rumored to be a haven for Filipina starlets that want to do the one time-big time. If you really think about it, some of the bad reputation that Filipina entertainers get there came from, quite sadly, other Filipina entertainers. Keep yourself respectable and choose the company you keep. There are a lot of decent places there in Guam (had my vacation there last year) so keep up the good work and represent. Hafa adai!

    Dear Mocha,

Yes crab mentality is everywhere. It is also a common misconception that it is more prevalent in the Pinoy society. Actually it is prevalent in any human society not just Pinoys. Crab mentality is nothing but human nature. Unfortunately some us of have less evolved souls so some us act like this. Let them be. As long as you stay clear from their reach, you will be OK.

My opinion however of that guy who was giving you hell was he is madly in love with you. He loves you a lot, just like me Mocha.

    I love you.

Hope to see more of your blogs. They make my day.

    Luv,

    Akram Golteb

    Ey,

How’s Guam? I hope you girls are having a good time :) As for your blog, I guess there are some men who want to feel that they’re Powerful and Irresistible I suppose. You know the alpha male mentality it’s everywhere from sons of politicians, drug lords and even rock stars.

All I can say is that your beautiful. Sorry to hear about your bad experience in Guam. Im Filipino born & raised here so experiences like that affect me more being both as a Filipino and from Guam. Well if you ever visit Guam again. Please stop by the Sheraton Hotel where I work.
